Tom Constance is a resident of Dickson County, Tennessee and is a lifelong woodworker. Tom’s
grandfather was a well-known master woodworker in Mansfield, Ohio during the early 1900’s. His
passion for wood was sparked by his high school wood shop teacher who was himself a master
craftsman. Over the years he has acquired both equipment and expertise to move from woodworker to
craftsman.
Having followed an eclectic career path that included owning and managing retail bookstores,
publishing, teaching English at universities in China for 3 years, wood shop supervisor for Narrow Gate
Artisans, and finally retirement, he now has the time to fully pursue his passion for wood. Tom worked
for a time at the Franklin Woodcraft store where he encountered many of the local craftsmen and
learned much from those relationships.
“Woodwork has always been my passion – the chance to visualize and create ‘usable art.’ I love
everything about wood. I love the smell of the raw lumber, watching the project as it takes shape,
and the satisfaction of seeing the finished product being loved, admired, and used.”
Tom’s creations include small furniture, exquisite treasure boxes, cremation urns, Jack Daniels whiskey
barrel candle holders, tablet holders, cutting boards, lamps, and much more. He enjoys working with
both locally sourced wood as well as exotic imports to create pieces that are both beautiful and useful.
