Karen Lehmberg
ceramics
Above all else, Karen Lehmberg considers herself a devoted lifelong learner. The arts have always held a prominent role in her life, and working with clay is another chapter in her artistic journey. Lehmberg is inspired by ‘creatures and colors’ and find ways to incorporate both of these into her pieces. A long-time resident of Williamson County, TN, many of the animals she weaves into her work are part of her daily life. Lehmberg uses stoneware clays to create her jars and bowls. These pieces are thrown on the wheel and then embellished or altered with hand-sculpted elements. After undergoing two firings in the kiln, each is then hand-painted with two to three coats of glaze. While Lehmberg’s pieces tend to be small, there is a lot of attention and love poured into each creation. The end result, she hopes, is something unique and whimsical to brighten someone’s day.
