Scott Kentner carves wood sculptures and functional art from reclaimed hardwood. A unique raw material, much of the wood is old growth, which has qualities not available from the saw mill today. Hard use, age and exposure adds further character and beauty that Scott draws out and incorporates into his designs.
Scott's sculptures are based on natural themes of flora and fauna. He creates both free–standing and relief sculptures. Many of the relief sculptures can be wall-displayed as easily as a painting.
Scott also creates beautiful serving and display trays. He transforms rough, reclaimed wood into functional art. Wood that had a previous agricultural, utilitarian, outdoor life now lives comfortably in the home and is used in a tactile, intimate way by its new owner. It’s an amazing transformation! The finished pieces balance the old and new, rustic and refined, organic and geometric and the artistic and functional. Scott’s design spring from the individual qualities of the selected wood. Since each piece of wood is unique, each tray is one of a kind.
Scott grew up on Tennessee’s Cumberland Plateau working summers in the lumberyards, hiking, hunting and fishing in the beautiful hardwood forests. He studied fine art of the University of Wyoming and the Chinese University of Hong Kong and began his professional art career in 2008. His workshop is in Pisgah Forest, NC.
