Michael Kenney finds that he enjoys making a quality product that is functional for use in the home. Reclaimed vintage items make handsome, one-of-a-kind functional art. Kenney’s first art business was making picture frames with leftover exotic leather from a western boot maker. From that point he started collecting horse hames and horse-related tack and leather. These items were found in barns and tack rooms; things that were outdated or no longer being used. Kenney made his first horse hame chair with these reclaimed items. He has made over seventy chairs to date. After thirty years of working with materials that have come to define his life as an artist, Kenney continue to make chairs and tables out of horse hames and antique objects.
