Logan Hickerson

I was both introduced and influenced to woodworking by my father, Faulkner Hickerson, who started the Nashville-based architectural firm that designed many of the building on the MTSU campus and local high schools. He instilled a reverence for wood and sparked my interest in using my hands to work wood and respecting the properties of the different woods used in woodworking.

I greatly enjoy deep relief carvings, which I find to be extraordinarily rewarding. There is something that is deeply satisfying to me to see a piece of wood on my carving table morph from and image in my mind to the image in the wood that one can run their fingertips over and actually feel the image, the textures of the wood grain and the facets and surfaces left by the wood carving tools.
